Sunday Night Delight - Chole Bhature

I was visiting my aunt in the UK this summer and both of us were fed up with eating at restaurants. Since my aunt is a very nice cook, I told her to cook something desi for the dinner. Upon brainstorming and shortlisting options, we finally decided to make Chole Bhature. This dish, Chole Bhature also known as Chana Bhatura, is one of the famous Punjabi dishes liked and enjoyed all over Pakistan and India. Chole is a spicy yet tangy chickpea curry while Bhatura is a very soft and fluffy fried puri. It is definitely a mouth-watering and absolutely delicious dish. This entire meal can be served at any time of the day, people mostly consume it for breakfast. You can eat Chole with Naan, Aloo Paratha too but for me, Chole with Bhature is the best. So, here’s the recipe we followed while making this dish. Ingredients: For the Chole: 2 cups chickpeas 4 cups water 2 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 2 medium onions, finely chopped 2 teaspoons ginger paste 2 teaspoons garlic paste 2 teas...

Restaurant Quality Tacos at Home

After a hectic day at the university, my friend and I returned home, and we were super hungry. As we were scrolling through Instagram, we saw taco's picture posted by a food blogger and they looked extremely delicious. That is when we decided to make tacos for ourselves. They turned out to be flavourful and looked appetizing as well.

Tacos are a classic Mexican dish that consists of small, hand-held flour tortillas filled with a variety of delicious ingredients. They are easy to make and can be customized to suit your tastes and dietary preferences. In this recipe, we will be making Chicken tacos with a simple seasoning blend and a variety of toppings, including coriander, tomato, corn, Flaming Hot Cheetos, Thousand Island sauce, etc.

Ingredients:

For marinating the chicken:

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken
  • 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the salsa:

  • 2 medium-sized Tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • Finely chopped coriander
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tin of corn
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon chilli garlic ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon thousand Island sauce
  • 1 tablespoon buffalo sauce

Instructions:

  • First, cut the chicken into small bite-size pieces. Take a bowl and add the chicken bites into it.
  • Now, add chilli powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt to marinate the chicken. Use your hand to mix the chicken and all the spices well together and set it aside for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, the chicken absorbs all the spices, prepare the salsa.
  • For the salsa, take another bowl. Chop tomatoes, coriander, and onions. Add them into the bowl along with corns, black pepper, and salt. Squeeze in the juice of one lemon. Mix all the ingredients and place the salsa in the fridge.
  • The next step is to make the sauce. Combine tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, chilli garlic sauce, thousand island sauce, and buffalo sauce. Put the sauce into the fridge.
  • Add Cheetos in a zipper-topped plastic bag and crush them.
  • Now it’s time to fry the chicken. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. When the skillet is hot enough, pour one tablespoon of oil into the skillet and then add the chicken. Fry the chicken until it’s golden brown.
  • Meantime the chicken rests, clean your skillet with a paper towel. Place the skillet back onto medium heat. Take two tortillas at a time and warm them until they begin to char. Flip and do the same for the other side. Repeat the process with the remaining tortillas.
  • Now, take the salsa and sauce out of the fridge.
  • To serve, take a tortilla and put the sauce onto it as a base. Generously add chicken and top it off with some salsa. Garnish it with Flaming Hot Cheetos! Perform the same steps for the remaining tortillas.

Tips:

  • To know if the chicken is perfectly cooked, insert the frock into it and see if it can penetrate through it well. If it doesn’t, it’s undercooked.
  • Take a plate, place a paper towel onto it and take off the chicken on it to ensure all the oil is soaked by it.
  • You can sprinkle some red chilli flakes into it if you want the salsa to be spicy.
  • Lemon elevates the taste, don’t miss it!

Tacos are a great meal for any occasion. You can also try different fillings, such as beef, and fish, and experiment with different seasoning blends and toppings to create your unique flavours.
